The one thing that so many cats need in this world is human contact but sadly this poor kitty looked so “gross” that nobody wanted to even touch him. Without any human contact, this poor kitty named Valentino craved any attention, but everyone refused to pet him.
The poor cat was suffering from sarcoptic mange which is a condition that causes grime to form on the skin. His fur was stiff because of this condition and that’s just one reason nobody wanted to give him love.
His eyes were also so caked with grime that his poor eyes were sealed shut – nobody wanted to even give the poor kitty a passing glance…poor baby!! The story is continued below… Pictures below and video at the bottom:
In the beginning Elaine Seamans didn’t care for this ugly cat and would normally walk past this cat’s cage without a second thought, but today was different.
While at Baldwin Park animal shelter last week, she was stopped in her tracks by a faint pitiful cry for help.
“He reached out with his little paw and made the tiniest meow,” Seamans tells The Dodo. “It was like he was screaming without verbalizing it: ‘Please help me.'” (via The Dodo)
“There are times when it’s not an option to keep walking,” she adds. “You just have to stop. This was one of those times,” she told The Dodo.
Although she had an option to wear gloves before touching the cat, she decided to just press the poor unloved cat to her heart without any reservations and his reaction was heart-wrenching…
“When I picked him up, he put his little head on my shoulder,” Seamans says. “That was it. I had to get him out,” she told The Dodo.
Seamans decided to make a call for help right then and there. She dialed her phone while still holding the cat. The poor kitty was meowing and and while she made the call to Toby Winsneski, the founder of Leave No Paws Behind, Toby knew that he had to help the poor cat. Those meows were just too much to turn away…
“When I was talking to Elaine on the phone and she let me hear his little meow, I said, ‘That’s it… I could hear him. That sealed the deal,” Seamans told The Dodo.
Wisneski was able to get Valentino and take him to the veterinary clinic just days after receiving the call – Although staff couldn’t act immediately at that moment, he could tell that someone had enough love to care.
His life started getting better from that moment forward. It just took a loving heart and a caring spirit to save even the most un-liked cat.
“He couldn’t move and he couldn’t see. But God love him, he’s a fighter,” Wisneski says. “Everybody just adores him and they’re very protective of him. – “His prognosis is excellent and once he gets through this, he’s going to have a long life ahead of him,”Wisneski told The Dodo.
“He’s so loving,” Wisneski says. “You can tell he is very grateful. He will purr for them and try to rub up against [veterinary staff]. He knows he is safe.”
Soon Valentino will be able to opens his eyes, and when he does, it will be a brand new life filled with love from his new owner!
